Pakistan is one of the biggest Muslim states in the world today. The country emerged out of the Indian sub-continent on the map of the world in 1947. The country has a majority of muslim population. Pakistan celebrates its independence on the 14th of August every year.
The word 'Pakistan' has been coined from the names of those regions that make up this nation - Punjab, Afgan Border States, Kashmir, Sind and Baluchistan. Even after 1947, Pakistan remained a dominion for nine years. It was only on the 23rd of March, 1956, that the country was declared an Islamic Republic. East Pakistan broke away and proclaimed sovereignty of the Republic of Bangladesh in 1971.
Today, the nation comprises of the major provinces - Sind, Baluchistan, Punjab and the North West Frontier Province along with the Federal Capital and other tribal areas. The tribal areas coming under the the government of Pakistan are Khyber, Kurram, Malakand, Mohmand, North Wazirstan and South Wazirstan. The capital city of the country is 'Islamabad'.

1906 - All India Muslim League was formed by Aga Khan the third
1930 - Under the leadership of Muhammad Iqbal, proposed the creation of a separate country.
1948 - Led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the league demanded the creation of a muslim state.
1947 - The division of the Indian sub - continent into India and Pakistan. The League emerged as the majority political party in Pakistan.

The Father of the Nation( Quaid - i - Azam)
Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born at Karachi on December 25, 1876. He was admitted to bar in England and then he returned to India and became an active supporter of The Indian National Congress. In 1913, he joined the Muslim League. In 1916, he was elected the president of the Muslim League, he was re-elected to this post again in 1920. He played an important role in bringing about the Lucknow Pact of 1916. In the Lucknow Pact, the Congress agreed to ensure a separate electorate for the muslim community. He resigned from the Congress in 1930 and channelised all his efforts towards the ends of the Muslim League. He headed the Muslim League and struggled until the creation of the Independent Pakistan. He was appointed the first Governor general of Pakistan. |

Pakistan's Flag
ThePakistan Flag was designed by Ameer-ud-din Khidwai.
The white represents Minorities and the dark green field represents the Muslim majority.
The crescent on the Flag represents progress.
The five-rayed star represents light and knowledge.

The National Emblem
The national emblem of Pakistan was approved by the Central Government in 1954..There is a crescent and star crest at the top of the emblem, this is the traditional symbol if Islam. In the centre is a shield divided into four parts showing cotton, wheat, tea and jute which are the main crops of Pakistan. It signifies the strong agriculture based economy of the country. This shield is encircled by a wreath.
The scroll supporting the shield carries the Urdu words 'Faith', 'Unity' and 'Discipline |
